shroud turnbuckle keep loosing

It seems I am always having to tighten the shrouds. What is a good way to keep turnbuckles from loosing?? I make it habit to inspect my shrouds before every sail but I hate having to tighten everytime I go out.

Whoa, what gives! You should adjust (tune) your rig at the beginning of the year - once and forget it. Do you have cotter pins in your turnbuckles - that''s what they''re for (use two in each turnbuckle). If you don''t have these pins in place, don''t go out again until you do.

Good luck.

DITTO! If you do have cotter pins or rings in your turnbuckles and your rig is still slacking off, you may have some BIG problems! It could be that you have closed barrel turnbuckles that are not fitted for cotters and need lock nuts. Give us some more information.

And let''s hope that the mast isn''t being pulled steadily downward due to a degradation of the deck (if deck stepped) or keelson (if keel stepped). Hope it''s just the tunrnbuckles loosening.
