Re: Winterizing Bilge
For a keel stepped mast, the garboard plug is an important feature. Since our keel prevents one from being installed in the bottom of the bilge, we remove a thru hull near the bottom of the mast, in which the mast ingress passes on its way to the bilge. Works very well.
Minus 50 degree antifreeze will be overwhelmed very quickly by dilution. Minus 100 and be diluted by half and still protect like minus 50. Remember, these temps are not anti-freeze temps, they are anti-burst temps. They only protect freezing to a much higher temp. Just freezing in the bilge can mess with float switches, etc.
