SSI Universal Mast Boot

I'm considering installing the SSI mast boot on the boat and would like to hear comments from others who have used this product.

Re: SSI Universal Mast Boot

thanks....I've got their instructions. Just wondering if after you glue it together with the adhesive, is there any problem with stretching it out enough around the mast to get silicon inserted between the boot and the mast. Not sure how well it stretches and if it stretches back.

Re: SSI Universal Mast Boot

I also use the boot. I have two large ( humongous actually) hose clamps around the boot and mast. One at the top and one at the bottom/ I also have a collar at the bottom for my spare halyard attachments

It works really well...no water.

Re: SSI Universal Mast Boot

It does stretch to go around the mast. I cut mine a little undersized. The top clamp is placed underneath the cover with the cover folded in on itself so the clamp is hidden.

I thought that I had a photo, but I don't. As others said, the top clamp goes under the boot and a bottom clamp goes around the base outside the boot. It's a little awkward fitting it, but the boot stretches nicely and can be convinced to conform. The joint on mine opened a little, so I sealed it with white silicone at the joint and around the top. Use a small bead and PUSH the bead instead of pulling. Go slow and it will come out neat. The whole job is maybe 30 minutes.
