Hi-seas diesel heater info

I'm trying to refurbish a hi-seas diesel heater, circa 1976. It has worked fine up to this point. I took it apart to clean it, and discovered that the wick in the bottom of the burner can was almost completely consumed. The only remnants were wrapped around a wire that looked like a piece of old coat hangar. Anyway, one of the forum members e-mailed me a copy of a manual, but it turned out that his manaual was for a newer unit. I am trying to figure out where and how the wick was positioned at the bottom of the burner can. Later models appeared to have a baffle that helped position the wick in the middle of the can standing upright, and the fuel line was supposed to be inserted into the wick. ON my unit, the fuel line runs down the outside of the front of the main heater body, then proceeds through a hole into the burner can where it runs down along the inside of the front of the burner can almost to the very bottom. There is no way to position that fueline into the middle of the unit, and the bottom baffle did not have any obvious markings for hanging a wick off of it. My wick remanats were laying on the bottom of the burner can. The wick itself was attached to what appeared to be a preformed piece of stiff metal like a coat hangar that was straight for about 4 inches, and then each end of the wire was bent back towards the middle at roughly a 60 degree angle. Does anyone know how this wick arrangement might have been placed in the bottom of the burner can?
