Running Rigging Vendor_Whos Best?

Looking to find a mail order vendor for some rigging-halyards, etc...

Seen lots of vendors... Who do you recommend?

Please only recommend someone you have actually used personally, not just someone you've heard about...

Will be having some fittings spliced in as well...

US mainland only please.

Thanks everyone! Bruce L

Sailboat Hardware, Boat and Yacht Line, Marine Electronics, Optimist Sail Boats and Parts. Company is out of Maryland. Used them on several occasions. Quick turnaround, quality products, good price. No complaints.

They also run a sail loft. Chesapeake Bay Sailmaker, Boat Sails, new, repair and re-cut by Force 10 Sails.

Defender
Annapolis performance sailing
Mauri pro sailing
West marine if they price match and you're in a pinch

For the actual splicing work, I'd try to stay local. But sometimes that can be pricey.

You specify US mainland, but I've also had great experience with Gary @ Cajun Rope in Canada. I've replaced all my running rigging through them and they were great. That said, I'm all for supporting US-based businesses in our f***ed up economy. +1 for Annapolis Performance Sailing, Mauri Pro and JSI (The Marine Supply Store for boat parts, hardware and sailing equipment in Tampa Bay.)

Re: Running Rigging Vendor_Whos Best?

I used Rigging Only to replace all my running and standing rigging last year. I was please with their price and service. You can call and talk about your selections. Surprisingly, they actually tried to down sell me, rather than up sell me on a couple of my choices.

Re: Running Rigging Vendor_Whos Best?

You seem to imply having it all prepared for you, and in that case I have no suggestion. Replacing my running rigging is one of my favorite activities and I do it all myself. The splicing is such a rewarding skill, and the cost is so very much cheaper. It is one of the most unique sailor activities, as opposed to the common boat stuff of fiberglass love and diesel maintenance.

I source my line from both Fisheries Supply Fisheries Supply - Marine Supplies Since 1928 here in Seattle, and sometimes an outfit in Bellingham, WA called LFS marine Marine Hardware, Mustang Survival Gear, Grundens Raingear, Scotty Downriggers & More! - LFS Marine and Outdoor. Both have good prices.

Annapolis Performance sailing, APSLTD.COM

Absolutely hands down the best I have dealt with. They are amazingly knowledgeable and their pricing is extremely reasonable. They have a huge selection too.

Re: Running Rigging Vendor_Whos Best?

Ditto all the above, rigging only is extremely helpful and will literally downsell you if it's in your best interest. Defender and Mauri pro sailing are great. I recently had a bad experience with Sound Boatworks, where I ordered a jacket they had on special and promised it would be shipped that day or the next one (I had a turkey day regatta I wanted it for). Almost 3 weeks later they still hadn't even shipped it. Mauri pro and defender ship same or next day, so I was a little spoiled I guess. I cancelled and ordered from Mauri pro who had the same promotion ongoing.

Splicing amsteel is very easy once you do it a couple times (great tutorial onlinea here:
) and requires little more than a marlinspike and some tape. If you are using high tech cored lines with poly covers then you simply splice the core which like I said is very simple. However if it is standard polyester core with polyester cover, then the cover takes the load and the more difficult double splice is necessary.
