Washing sails
Just wonderin',
While cruising is it O.K. to leave sails raised while it is raining to wash them off or is it a bad idea???

Thanks for the reply. We are newbies and it seemed like a reasonable thing to do but wasn't sure.

I don't think the answer is simple. It's a good idea to rinse off salt water, but rain isn't going to wash much else off a sail. Then the question is how you dry it off before furling or bagging. Putting it away wet might become a mildew farm, if left that way for a lengthy time.

Thanks 'M', I was anticipating clear, warm skies and sailing after the rain. An idyllic scenario, I know, but one that I would look forward to alleviating the mold/mildew attack.
