Re: Clean bottom how much?

I would like to ask is the cost per square foot? say 8 foot beam times 26 foot LWL or is it just 26 foot X the going price say it is $ 3.00 a foot = $ 78 VS $ 624 at square feet. You are not really on a square scow so how do fair ways of pricing come into play or is it all kind of standard? Does one add a tip for good service? I am on a trailer so I do not know. What is the custom for most areas? Kind regards, Lou

My diver uses a very soft brush when he inspects the bottom. Maybe he doesn't charge me much because the bottom is always pretty clean.
Judy, I'm your diver. I know what I'm charging you. :-)

Most hull cleaners charge a per foot rate based on the length overall. Rates vary widely from region to region however. Tips are always appreciated, of course, (as in any service business) but not expected.

Re: Clean bottom how much?

If you can stand on the bottom while cleaning the bottom, you'll use a lot less effort. The diver that I use tells me he uses twice the air when he's not able to touch the bottom.

When I do it myself I try to work when I can stand on the bottom so I'll have two hands free -- one to clean and the other to check my work. It's very fast but occasionally I bump my head on the hull when surfacing for air. My wife is not thrilled when I come home with black CSC stains on my forehead.

Only if you are fortunate enough to have a sand bottom. Here in the Bay, the bottom is primarily a very soft mud and disturbing it is the quickest way to ruin any visibility you may have had.
