I went out to look at my boat, and the stern setup will not work... My stern rail is bolted on the stern differently from yours.

Off topic question 20" or 25" shaft?

You would have to explain that one. is the motor up /down, do you use the power head, place your foot on the lower unit?

Here is something similar but I don't know what the mounting hardware looks like.

Folding Platform Ladder 3 Step

For installation, I'd always out some kind of backer instead of just washers, there can be significant loads on a boarding ladder.

I'd also recommend one that mounts permanently and can be deployed from the water, it really is a huge safety feature. A ladder that lives in a cockpit locker does you zero good when you are overboard. I could 'sort of' see having an short 'emergency' transom ladder and then a longer ladder that hooks on the side for other situations (boarding from the side in waves can be easier) but that seems silly compared to just having one that is always available.
I went to the boat yesterday and ruled that out... Unfortunately, the stern rail is bolted on the back of the boat where you would install the ladder. I think I'm going to go with the one guitarguy suggested.

I'm pretty sure you do not want to use the outboard as a ladder to get on and off the boat... the mounts for these outboards are not that structurally sound for the additional weight (150-200 lbs or more constantly on the engine ie. more than one person?) and eventually the mount will fail... or at least weaken a most important part of the boat... the transom!

I just ordered my ladder and hopefully comes in this week... I'm sure it's well made... the storing capability allows for keeping the ladder out of sight rather than getting it stolen... and it's out of the way when not in use... I'm sure I made the right choice and sure you'll make the right choice too.

I think the one you picked out will work well for me too. I'll be ordering soon!

I was looking to do the same thing on our Pearson 26. Found this ladder and it's 5-steps so should easily have at least a couple rungs in the water.
