Re: Lettering Removal

Thanks all for the tips. I've started to sand the marks off. What a pain in the butt, standing on the 3rd step down on the swim ladder with one arm wrapped around a stanchion and the other sanding. I will be easily recognizable by the size of my forearms & shoulders by the time this is done, of course, I could turn the boat around in the slip and work from the dock. Duh!!!!!
Thanks again.

Re: Lettering Removal

I've done this twice now, and can say, gelcoat, no problem, 600 grit wet sand with a palm sander... then compound, polish and wax (leave wax out until you get your new letters on)...

But I did the same thing with my 25 footer, and found out the PAINTED on letters were PAINTED on over awlgrip (white over light blue)... ugh... so I have these huge smudges on the stern of the boat right now... It's ok though, as it's been 20 years since the boat was awlgripped and it needs to be done again (more work)...

But yeah, sand, compound, polish, reletter, then wax.
