What size/type sewing needles

I am working with sailcloth but can't figure out what needles to use in my sewing machine. Do people use general purpose or heavier duty ones?

Depending on the wieght, the machine might not work too well. Definitely get the heavy duty needles. Usually the heaviest that an average sewing store will carry.

For the real answer contact SAILRITE.com. They specialize in pieces and parts for all things sailing but also kits, sewing machines and supplies. Since they service a DITY populace, they know what us folks need, including needles, even for machines not their own. I'm planning on building an A-sail from kit next winter. When spread out, it will fill my living room, half the kitchen, and go down half the hall to the bedrooms. As you can guess, it won't BE spread out.
