Deck Flood Light

Hi All,
My desk flood light is hanging from the wires (see photo).
I'm not going to be able to go up the mast until I take the cover off the boat this spring. I'm just hoping somone is familiar with this light and can tell me if I'm going to need to buy something to repair it. (I have duct tape already).

Any other details you know, like what type of bulb it uses, etc. would be appreciated.

Looks a little like a Perko steaming light, but not their current one.

Unless somebody can make a positive ID, you're probably going to need to go up the mast to see if you can find any identifying markings.

You may just be better off replacing it.

It looks like the Aqua Signal combination masthead/foredeck light for boats up to 20 meters. Perhaps the metal clip that holds the bulb in place rusted out. Better maybe it just came loose and just requires to be pushed back in.

If it were me, and you are comfortable working in the air suspended by a line, when you climb up bring some thin gauge metal (maybe 0.5 inches wide by 2-inches long), metal snips and needle nose pliers and try to fabricate a new shim to hold the bulb in place. There is probably some kind of track/guide in the housing that holds the original shims so take out the broken piece(s) and replace. Although it could be a total waste of time and you will, as others have suggested, replace the entire unit.

I just got back from the yard.

The steaming light is still working, but the flood light is kaput. (still hanging by the wires, just not lighting up anymore).

I suppose replacing them with LEDs makes sense.

If it were me, I'd go replace the whole thing.

From the picture, it looks to me like your fixture is missing a ring for the bottom that keeps the floodlight in place. It may be screw on or bayonet mount, or some such. If you didn't find that piece on the deck, then it has gone missing and you have no choice anyway. Besides, you'll get more clarity, and therefore more illumination from new lenses.

I agree with Tom. The plastic ring that holds the lamp in place appears to be missing.

It may be difficult to get that part but once you know the exact model, see if you can get the part.

The ring screws on and presses the lamp against the housing to creat a water proof seal.

Thanks to ambianceack for the Identification and Seaduction for the links.

While looking at those pictures and back at the one's I'd taken, I had come to the same conclusion which Tom and Deric pointed out.

I'm missing a part. Then, I remembered the balck plastic ring I found on the deck during the sea trial. I've just returned from the yard again and it appears to be a match!

My current plan is to get replacement LEDs here:

And hopefully all will be well once I can get up the mast.
