Repairing soft spot/indentation in Fiberglass sailboat hull -

1982 Edel 22' sailboat with an indentation/soft area in the hull where one of the pads for the supporting cradle is located. The indentation is about 3/4" below the hull surface. The indentation pops out when the boat is lifted out of the cradle and there are no leaks or cracks in the fiberglass. How do I reinforce / repair this area. - Kevin

Re: Repairing soft spot/indentation in Fiberglass sailboat hull -

It might be normal flex in the hull, aggravated by putting the wrong size pad in the wrong place. OR some of the glass fibers may have broken, no easy way to tell internally. Check out the West Systems web pages for articles on repairs and reinforcing.

While afloat the support is uniform, unlike a poorly blocked boat on pads.. Not sure you need to worry too much beyond strategically placing pads near bulkheads the next time you haul, and/or put a bit more weight on the keel in the first place.

The boats weight always belongs on the keel the pads or cradle is just supposed to be balancing the boatb

You could pretty much dent any boat if support it wrong

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

Thank you for your comments - you are most probably right - the pads on the cradle are supporting too much of the weight.
