Holding tank fittings

I am replacing the hoses to my holding tank and want to remove the fittings (plastic 1 1/2 inch)to clean sludge from tank bottom.
How should the threaded and slip over ends of the fitting be sealed I was cosidering 3M 4200 product.any sugestions?
