Merc 2 stroke

I am considering purchase 6 hp 2 stroke merc .... gear and throttle are both in the handle. Looks to be in top shape Serial 0G249361 USA 54935 ... No idea of the year but otherwise near showroom... very little use. Wondering about ball park price.... and whether it is reasonably reliable for ship to shore inflatable.

Re: Merc 2 stroke

I have a Merc 3.5, and LOVE it. No oil changes, the tank is integral, and it produces lots of power - it will get my 190lb butt, and my 9' RIB up on a plane :D, and it will run for over an hour (not at WOT :)) on a tank of gas.

That said, it isn't perfect. I wish that the tiller were longer, and it had a throttle on the tiller. It sounds like this OB addresses these two shortcomings. I believe that ALL small Mercury motors were manufactured by Tohatsu.

Most of the small Mercs, Mariners and Nissans are actually Tohatsu. Once you get to 6hp it might actually be a Yamaha rebranded. Obviously do your research. The big key is not to leave pump gasoline (with ethanol etc) in them for extended periods (ie in periods of winter storage) and obvioysly dont overheat them. good luck
