Help, head up my...

I posting this earlier but it didn't seem to show up

I am replacing the plumbing to my Head Mate head. The instructions are not clear which flap of the flap valve goes on top. Is it the one with metal on one side and plastic on the back or is it the one with metal one one side and rubber on the other?

Also, what faces what once the correct top valve is established?

I would hate to have to go back to do it again if I guessed wrong
