Hull-deck joint - suggestions needed Int'l Folkboat

hello -

the previous owner of this Int'l Folkboat solved some hull-deck joint leaks with caulk. i need to figure out whether to take off the old caulk and redo the same sort of thing, or epoxy it, or something else.

since this will be only my 2nd year as a member of the yachting class i'd prefer simple and good to complicated and excellent. your guidance would be much appreciated and carefully considered.

The curse of the molded fiberglass toe rail

My Cal 29 suffered from the same issue

The caulking rework is the only reasonable thing to do outside

That is dig it out and caulk it again as with some careful taping you can do a neat looking job

If there is and issue with the joint failing in some manner , why else would it leak

And inside repair while messy does not shine a spotlight your work

Hello, IF boats are the best. I have an 1975 Marieholm IF. I've got a small leak port side amidships.
Slight gap in the caulking. Is it best just to repair the small area or completely redo the entire caulking? Thanks.

Looks like too big a gap for Butyl tape.

Why wouldn't filling that gap with epoxy/thickeners & cloth be a good idea?

I'm not familiar with an International Folkboat but how is the deck attached to the hull? I would be more worried why there is a gap there. For example if the deck is attached with bolts and they have become loose, caulking wouldn't be the first thing on my list. Do other IF's have a gap & caulking there?

If there is no structural issues, then clean all the old caulk off and use a good quality marine sealant.

That looks like an appropriate place to use 5200 - the more adhesive & permanent the better I would think.
