Re: Speedseal -- best place to order?

I recommend directly from SS. I called the number, and they knew for my engine that there were different water pumps installed that required different SpeedSeals. The agent told me what to look for to order the correct SpeadSeal.

There was no hassle at all ordering directly.

I'm attaching a picture to show them.

The one on the left is the old one I just pulled over top of the spares. You can see it's much larger in size. The one on the left is the spare. There is a difference also between the bar in the middle of the old one and the spare has nothing in the middle.

I'm not sure if the PO ever did much maintenance so it's a possibility. He may not have known the spare impellers were not good. I did get spare belts, fuel/oil filters.

Re: Speedseal -- best place to order?

I'd also vote for the spares being wrong. I had a spare fuel filter on the shelf for a long time, decided to swap it in. Funny thing, dealer sold me a totally wrong filter and of course, a year later, no one is going to take it back. Sometimes, they just look up a part number and jump a line while they're reading across.

The good news is that you tore the blade while taking it out, instead of the blade tearing from age and going down to clog something in the engine. Or finding out that you've got the wrong spares, in the middle of nowhere.

Re: Speedseal -- best place to order?

The best place to buy Yanmar bits - so far as I have found - is Torreson Marine in Michigan. You may not be in their territory though. It seems Yanmar is pretty strict about sales territories. The savings is so great over our local vendors that I have bought a bundle of Yanmar bits, had them shipped to a friend in Minnesota, then she shipped them on to me, and there was still a good saving. While you're ordering an impeller, get oil filters, fuel filters gaskets, all the spares you're going to need for a couple of years all at once. Save on that shipping.

Just to confirm other responses - speed seal replaces the impeller cover plate and screws only -- not the impeller. If your spares don't fit, they're the wrong size -- simple as that.

I've only had one Yanmar engine, so I can't speak authoritatively, but I don't think there is a "standard" Yanmar impeller. You've got to get the one that fits your specific engine/water pump.

Re: Speedseal -- best place to order?

Is it a 2gm20f by any chance?
I got the wrong impeller the first time too, and I went direct to the Yanmar dealer in town too, with model and S/N on hand.
There were 2 options for the 2gm20F according to them.
