Balmar Alternator Eating Belts

That sounds like a viable alternative. I called Balmar again today and talked to a different rep. He suggested I switch to a Dayco "Top Cog" Belt and reprogram the regulator to step down the field potential a bit and fine tune the system. This may be my last effort before having the Hitachi altered. The season is too short here in Maine to waste weekends on mechanical problems.

Thanks

Ran into a similar problem. Belt dust everywhere.

Found the mount where you tension the belt was flexing alowing the belt to hit the edge of the pully.

Just an idea...

Balmar Alternator Eating Belts

I have a the same Balmar on my 3GM30 Yanmar and no belt problems as long as I set the alternator output to keep the amperage at or below 80 amps, and even then it will kill the engine at idle. I use a deep V industral belt.

Thanks for the input,

I tried backing down the field potential on the MaxCharge regulator to 75% and used a Dayco Top Cog belt as Balmar suggested and still haven''t seem much of an improvement. I called Balmar back and now they are sending another pulley to try. I hope this does it becuase the alignment is perfect and sailing season is too short to be wasting all this time. Thanks for the help.

Steve
