Turnbuckle Source - NYC

brought a banged up turnbuckle to West Marine in Manhattan and they had nothing in stock or apparently even orderable to replace it. the particularly nice sales guy kept saying he wished they had a pair of calipers to accurately measure it. (i measure about 3/8" for both the pin diameter and the opening of the jaw part, 5" length for the open part ).

since it's one of 4 turnbuckles (branded Hasselfors) that holds up the mast on my international folkboat, i'd prefer picking it up asap in NYC - any suggestions?

and if online would be better, anybody have a suggestion of exactly which one i should order from where? does something like the hayn jaw-to-jaw forged bronze TFB series (with 3/8" pin) make sense? for instance - this?

thanks much for any help. sorry about incorrect terminology and ignorance, working on learning.

I'd Give these folks a call, get an email add. and send the photos. They've never not had an odd part that I needed or been able to get it quickly. They also have bins of odds and ends in the store and outside on a rack.

You might try Post marine Supply in New Rochelle (short train ride) or Defender (ex New Rochelle now CT) since either one can ship it via UPS ground and still get it to you overnight. Both have large inventories.

Even standard delivery from Defender will likely be next business day.

If you want a new Hasselfors piece to replace it, you might have to order from Europe. That brand was never very common in chandleries here - it mostly came already mounted on Scandinavian boats.

I had them on my lifelines years ago - nice stuff. I particularly liked the little "hallmark" they cast into the heads of their clevis pins.

Princes Aito has 5/8th galvanized closed body turnbuckles for around $18, the cheapest I have seen them in decades. Good looking tunbuckles too.

Mc Master. They have warehouse in central NJ and normal delivery time is one day.
Yes, I know they are not a marine outfit. I believe it is a plus.

WM carries the Hayn turnbuckles: HAYN Open Body Turnbuckles at West Marine

They come in either chrome or bronze.
You should be able to order them and have them shipped to the WM store of your choice for pick up - free delivery.

Re: Turnbuckle Source - NYC

seems sort of amazing that all of NYC doesn't have a decent source of basic sailing parts. since i don't have a car just ordered from defender. thanks for the replies.

defender ships promptly.
I've been quite happy with them getting stuff to me in a timely manner.
