cracked window

I just discovered a small crack in the corner of my Perspex inward opening window above the galley on my hunter 44 DS. Should I drill a small hole at the end of the crack and fill with Epoxy to stop the crack spreading. Does anyone know if this will work?

If it is Perspex, that's acrylic usually called Plexiglass in the US. Drilling will stop the crack from growing but conventional epoxy doesn't stick well to acrylics. If you cna find one that is made to stick to acrylics, by all means, but otherwise any sealant or caulk would do.

The end of the crack acts like any other corner. It's referred to as a "stress riser". Any stress in the material will culminate at the point of the crack. By drilling a small hole as your suggesting, the forces will be spread out in about 90 degrees, essentially. Good idea. To seal it, contact your local glazier and see what they will sell you. Be sure of what you have though. Not all clear plastic glazings are the same and not all are compatible with all sealants. You may have acrylic, polycarbonate, copolyester or a number of other products, but acrylic or polycarnonate are most likely. When you seal, be sure to mask the area to be sealed and tool the sealant if required. Caulking, silicone, urethane, acrylic and the like require tooling the joint to be watertight. Don't buy it if somebody tells you in a testosterone empowered boast that he never tools his joints and they're just fine. I'm a glazing designer. ALL joints MUST be tooled to meet any kind of warranty criteria. But, a small bottle of material-specific adhesive may do the trip. Very thin, much like water and fast setting. It's be sucked right into the crack, like a week's pay in the marina store when you discover all the stuff you never knew that you always wanted.

Friends of ours with a Beneteau (bought new) had issues with their Lewmar ports nearly right away. Through Beneteau and Lewmar they were replaced free of charge. Talking to Hunter may be worthwhile as far as sourcing replacements.

Drilling and patching would be short term solutions at best, I'd think.
