Mast Paint Colour

Does anyone here know of a specific brand & colour of paint suitable for spars that provides a decent simulation of the colour of varnished spruce?

I'm not talking about one of those faux wood grained finishes that some people are putting on carbon spars, simply a colour that provides a reasonable facsimile of a varnished spar from a distance.

The colour charts I've seen are either too sandy "buff" or too anodized gold looking.

I'm hoping someone knows of a good stock colour to save me having to custom mix something.

years ago (almost thirty now ) when my parents had their grampian, we tried everything to paint the mast. Nothing survived a single season

You probably didn't use zinc chromate first. Modern paint will last pretty well as long as anodizing if it is done properly.

Admirably succinct, but I was hoping for a LITTLE more subtlety.

I don't doubt it. My Father was pretty cheap, so he probably just sanded and painted

Re: Mast Paint Colour

In Awlgrip and Perfection the color range is pretty limited unless your smart enough to blend to colors on your own

Re: Mast Paint Colour

Take a picture of your mast, take it to the paint shop and ask the paint salesman to mix it up to match.

If I did that I'd get a can of aluminium paint. The boat I'm buying has bare alloy spars and eventually I'd like to get some simulation of wood spars - it's a pretty funky boat.
