Twin Disc MG 360 installed-full story
I've been hauled out for a few weeks now and have successfully installed the new Twin Disc MG 360 into my Gulf 32. It is a story filled with the usual hurdles and triumphs, all documented here with photos: Stories of Aeolus- Our Gulf 32 Pilothouse: Alignment, re-assembly, painting, prop work, Oh My!
The post before this post on my blog shows more of the transmission itself. I'll say that the biggest challenge was that the Twin Disc has the shift arm on the port side, where the Hurth has it on the starboard. When they layed up the hull on the Gulf 32 they actually created more space on the starboard side for the Hurth, but not on the port. So I had to grind away some of the hull to make room. Fortunately, the fiberglass here is 1.5" thick!!!! Still, I reinforced with some epoxy layers of glass on the outside to replace what I took off on the inside.
Of course, I had to do alignment and all the other stuff, and did some painting and prop shaft work too. Just another FYI for anyone facing similar boat projects.
