New Shoe Review

I decided to kick my Topsiders habit and try something new.
Crocs.

Yeah...Crocs.

Anybody else got a pair of these?

I tried Crocs a few years ago. Never did get used to them. I'm still a top-siders kinda guy. They do get a little ripe and require a good washing now and then. I run them through the washing machine and slip wood trees in them while drying in the sun. I get a solid year from a pair. Yours appear to have some grass stains on the soles. ;-)

Re: New Shoe Review

I have worn Topsiders for years and years. Having zero arch support is starting cause me some issues. I may go towards the modern tennis shoe version of boat shoes, ugh. I really love my topsiders. The last pair that I wore until in tatters is floating somewhere in the BVI after an emotionally charged burial service in the middle of the Sir Francis Drake channel. The admiral proclaimed that either the shoes go overboard or me. They were not in the best of shape at the time.

Does anyone have a recommendation on the new modern style of boat shoe?

Adidas Climacool Boat Lace. IMO, the best shoe out there now by a wide margin.

I am happy with the sneaker style BUT you have to be careful of dubious and slippery sole material

Vibram makes the best sole going but I have not yet seen then do a deck shoe

I have just ordered a pair of these bad boys online:

KEEN Footwear - Mobile

While not specifically boat shoes I intend to give them a thorough boat shoe workout. Basically I've become a total Keen-a-holic.

Can't wait to hear how they perform on the boat. I've been wearing Sperry's for 40 years. They're like a comfortable old friend, but the quality has notably declined in the last several years.

Cracked me up to read about how you shuffle the inventory from boat, to work to yard. I always, including right now, have three generations of boat shoes for essentially the same declining purpose. The lowest grade typically has stitching coming out, but they still seem useful for something. :)

Please donate your nastiest pair of Topsiders to a pet shelter.
They make great toys for kittens if they still stink a little and still have laces. Probably not a great idea to encourage dogs to chew on them though.

The only recommendation I can give is to use a heat moldable arch support insole. I use them in my topsiders, I purchased them at a bicycle shop in CT, the brand name is Bontrager, they go for $39.99 and I like them quite a bit.

I wear these two in cooler weather. Both have good arch support. Stick like glue to a wet deck. Super comfortable. Great to switch back and forth
