Garmin Nuvi 255W

Mornin!!

We are thinking of buying a new Garmin GPS, and the US Inland Lakes maps. We have a Garmin Nuvi 255W that we use for road trips.

My question is...would you use that and just download the maps into it, or, buy a dedicated GPS for marine use?

I think, if I am reading Garmin's website correctly, we would be sent a dvd that we download into our computer and then transfer to our Nuvi 255W.

Thanks for your suggestions/help!

Re: Garmin Nuvi 255W

I've got the same Garmin 255w for my car. I wouldn't use it for marine navigation; I don't think you can even get marine charts for that device. I'm not sure I understood your post, though; maybe that's not what you meant. There are some decent apps for Android or iPad devices that'll do it well for you.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 255W

Hi bblument - When looking on the Garmin website, it states my 255W is compatible with the US Inland Lakes maps. But only via a dvd, loaded into my computer, and then transferred to the Nuvi via a usb.

Basically, my question is: Would you sailors do this, or, buy a dedicated Marine gps like their Montana series, etc.

Thanks for replying and happy day!!
