Anyone possibly know what drop hitch height I need?

I am heading 180 miles on Tuesday, May 28, to go and pick up my boat. Problem is, I have no idea what drop I need for my trailer. I know how to figure it out, but unfortunately I am unable to measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler. The boat is a 14' C-Lark sailing dinghy. The trailer is a Snowco trailer. If anybody has a Snowco trailer for a boat this size and can give me a measurement with the trailer sitting level, it would greatly help.

I am using a 2010 Jeep Commander. I just installed a Curt 13414, 2" class III receiver and wiring harness today and have the correct 1 7/8" ball for the trailer, but I am not sure of the hitch drop height. The distance from the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening is about 6" and 13/16"

One can always buy the proper hitch unless you find yourself out in the boonies. I bought a hitch whose height can be adjusted.

Ok...first of all, if the top edge of the receiver hole is only about 7" off the ground, that is an inch or two lower than most, but still just fine. Get one like pictured in this link from Northern Tool. You can insert it "upside down" and pick up about 4" of ball height. If that is more than you need, remove the ball and insert it in "right side up" and re-install the ball. Is isn't critical that the trailer sit perfect level. It's fine if it sits a little nose high.

I may actually have one just like that! I have a few drop hitches around. If its safe to use one of them I'm set! Now to get her worked on and in the water before this spring wind goes.

Ball height just needs to be such that the underside of the hitch/trailer tongue doesn't drag when driving across dips at the intersection and not so high that the tail end of the trailer doesn't do the same. What's most important is the boat doesn't bounce off the trailer. Tie it down good! ;-)

I think I should be good to get her home to work on her. I will post tomorrow once I am back home after a 6 + hour day. Cheers!

I've been so busy playing around and getting her ready to sail the last few days. Hitch we had was just right. Glad it worked out!
