Most everyone with one has it for a reason and they like 'em. You don't see them available used much at all.

I see several listed on Cruisers Forum each week, usually around $2500.

Aren't they custom fit to the boat, though?

I've seen pieces and parts for sale, but not a complete unit all that often. Perhaps due to the customization. I didn't go take a look, but maybe I'm wrong.

Monitors are standard units with custom mounts. I imagine you can buy the custom parts from the manufacturer. They have fitted their units to hundreds of different models of boats.

They aren't cheap because they manufacture and assemble in-house. The best bet is to locate a used unit via ebay or craigslist. Once you have it it's a matter of customizing mounting and layout. The cheapest way is to find someone who can fab your tubing and brackets. Scanmar will consult, and has pre-configured layouts on-hand for every production boat they've mounted one on. Those plans are your gold.

Check out Latitude38.com Classy classifieds section. Usually a few different types of servo pendulum steering devices available.
