A Moment of Silence..

for Ted Hood.

An amazing number of things we now take for granted on sailboats were his invention.

From a Sport Illustrated article in 1961 about Ted Hood:

"If Roger Maris manufactured the bats he used, sold them to all the very best players and successfully managed the Giants, he would hold a comparable position in baseball."

Re: A Moment of Silence..

Ted Hood was a highly innovative sail designer who brought us modern sailcloth, miter cut genoas from Hood Sail loft, at one time the premier sail loft in the world. Hood was an America's Cup skipper. He also was designer and co-designer of many of the most respected Bristols. And by all accounts a true gentleman and decent human being.

Rest in peace Brown thread Ted from Marblehead.

Re: A Moment of Silence..

I think Ted Hood was THE giant of 20th century yachting. Most people did one thing well: sailing, sail-making, gear design, yacht design. Hood did them all and did them well.

Back home on Lake Ontario after something over 36,000 nm circumnavigator. Not surprisingly there is a lot of stuff I want to get done on Ainia both cosmetically and functionally. Getting an early start so it will be ready to go for next summer (Lake Superior?).
