Recommendations for Delivery/moving Skippers

OK - got the boat ...thanks in part to some encouragement from members on this board.
She is in Riverside, NJ and I am thinking of getting her down to Rock Hall,MD so we can get used to her and get out later this summer. I don't have the time to move her, so does anyone have recommendations for skippers or companies that will take her down to Rock Hall?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Recommendations for Delivery/moving Skippers

Congrats to your new purchase. You will have fun with the Jeanneau. She will take you to many places beyond the Bay.

I am sure many Sailnetee will step up to help you the take the boat to rock hall for you. It is short motoring trip and can be done over a weekend.

Too bad that I am leaving for the 2013 TransPac race to Hawaii on this Friday, I am due back on the 27th, but I have another delivery on the 29th from TCI to Puerto Rico. I am more than happy to help if you can't find other to help and are willing to wait until the mid august.

It is a short trip and is not far from me. There will be no cost to you except may be a few bottles of ice water for me to drink. PM me if you need my assistance.

Good luck and ride her hard.

That is prefect. Yes, you already bought her, play her. hahaha.

If you are not too familiar in motoring the boat, practice Figure 8 forward and in reverse. Know when is the maximum prop walk occurs, etc. Practice until you can do it with your eyes close. By then you may not need anyone to help you to Rock Hall.

Re: Recommendations for Delivery/moving Skippers

Congrats on the new boat.

I am familiar with Winter SC and the Delaware as well. I have a 35 ft C&C and am very familiar with the northern and central Chessie as it is my cruising ground primarilyalso

A 96 mi trip and also playing the Delaware current. Accomplished easily in 2 days You could do a night run as an alternative, but not sure of your comfort level), . I suggest one of two scenarios,

First 60 miles through the Canal anchoring either in the NW mouth of the Bohemia River or off Betterton on the Sassafrass River. Next day a short 6 hours to Rock Hall
or
Second 45 miles to a slip in Delaware City the the last 50 to Rock Hall.

The limiting factors are the currents and times on the Delaware corresponding to the days you will be traveling as well as your comfort to be out a few hours at night.

You shouldn't need a paid Captain ( that would be a one day affair). Like Rockdawg I would be willing to assist depending on the days you are intending on doing it in August. Damn maybe he and I will do it together ( that would be a hoot). I require no pay, but a nice meal would do ( more expensive than RD,). Let me know

Dave

Re: Recommendations for Delivery/moving Skippers

Doc I know someone that can do it. He is associated with Winters and they know him. Fred is his name. He's a licensed captain also. BTW Doc, what's the draft on your boat? I was looking up the information. 6.5 feet?

Re: Recommendations for Delivery/moving Skippers

To OP,

Thanks for Denise's post, I looked up the said boat. I just realized that it is a 2014 Jeanneau 44DS. I think you will be better served by a USCG licensed captain with a million ton endorsement with a million mile off-shore sea time. .

Although I have sailed many new boats, 2011 Jeaneanu 45 DS, 2011 Dufour 40E, 2012 Jeanneau 409, 2012 Bavaria 40 and etc, I don't think I am qualified to take your new baby to Rock Hall no matter how easy it seems. I formally and respectfully redraw my inquiry for the delivery. I will not serve you well in this situation.

I should have done my home work before sticking my head out and replied the post blindly. Thanks Denise. I will try to do a better job in the future.

BTW, I am pretty sure he has a shoal draft, less than 5.5 ft.
