Easy only if you know the answer

I have over the years worked on Hundreds of boats and most have a wooden plaque .

I still do not know what it all means.
Even though I have worked for some large boat builders I have never seen the sign fitted.
I guess there one of the last items fitted before they are sold...

I am sure the bottom line refures to the length .
But what does the top line relate to ??
And what does
O.N. Mean ?

The top line looks like a call signal ON 309561
The second line is the tonnage (not the displacement)
RT (register ton) also abbreviated GRT

One register ton = 100 cubic feet

You cant fit this until the boat have been measured and registered.
In Norway this number (and tonnage if measured) have to be permanently marked on the boat/ship

Top number looks like a documentation number. My U.S. documentation number is also 6 digits.

Coast Guard documented boats are required to display their document number like that. I've never seen the tonnage on it though.

O.N. Official number This is the boats registration number. In the US it's the documentation number.

R.T. (In Canada this should be N.R.T.) Registered tonnage

In Canada, both the official number and register tonnage shown on the Certificate of Registry must be clearly marked and permanently fixed to the hull. In the US this is probably the requirement for documented vessels.

Top number is manufacturers registration number the bottom number is the tonnage.

No Gary it definitely is not the manufacture's number. It's the official registration number of that boat specific to that particular boat or registered name.

I agree with those above; the top number is the "official" number of registration, which is why you wouldn't see it installed at the factory. It is probably installed by the seller (broker or agent) after the paper work for registration is done. and the vessel then has an official number.
The second must be tonnage, as suggested above, as registered tonnage, be it net or gross, depending on the country of initial registration.
US boats have only the official number on the plate and by law that plate must be permanently attached (fiber glassed on or welded in the case of steel), not screwed on.
This number remains with the boat and does not change with ownership.

Here is the vessel the plate is on.

Macwester 26 archive details - Yachtsnet Ltd. online UK yacht brokers - yacht brokerage and boat sales

I am working on a westerley Griffon at the moment I will try and rember and take a picture of that plate as well..

I did think the bottom number could be the length of the vessel...

Last year i was working on a oldish crusier that was 45 foot long it also has a plate. set out in the same format....

Here again is the same vessel with another tpe of plate see image 4 or 5
