Just wanted to get to my 15 here, so I can post links and PM...

What is anyone's favorite nautical themed book?

We've been discussing this for years. More books than you will ever be able to read:

O'Brian's Aubrey series.

Alberg 35: With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship.

I like the Horatio Hornblower books. The Aubrey series is good, too. One of my all-time favorites is "The Bounty Trilogy" by Nordhoff. Then, the book that really got me interested in sailing was W.I.B. Crealock's "Vagabonding Under Sail."

Aubrey-Maturin.

Been reading a lot of books on whaling lately. In the Heart of the Sea was really good. Heck of a story. Whale Ships and Whaling by Church has some great pictures and a pretty good description of how a whaling voyage would go. No matter how you feel about whaling now, it was an important part of early 1800's society, and what these crews did was incredible.

Re: Favorite Nautical Themed Books

I've been ready the "blue water series" by CLR Daughtry. Maybe not the best literary work I've read but interesting and the story is based in the Caribbean.

Staredge-I've thoroughly enjoyed In the Heart of the Sea as well. Excellent book!
