Headed to Catalina!

Got the boat prepped and I'm ready to head over to Catalina for a nice day trip. Wind is going to be around 12 knots so I'm gonna throw up the 155. Can't wait!

Re: Headed to Catalina!

Enjoy! I've always wanted to get over there. The trip seems like it would be a lot of fun, and I've heard great things about the island.

Fair winds!

Re: Headed to Catalina!

So I threw the 155 on the boat this evening. Leaving at 5am. Should be nice and calm over there. Will motor. Anchor in a little cove. Have some lunch. Wait for the wind to pick up then sail around to the back side maybe then sail back in the evening. An nice long day of sailing!!! Its the first time to really sail with the 155. The boat came with a 135. That was in bad shape so I bought a really nice 125. That's great but a tad small for light wind. The 155 has been on my boat and looks like it's never been used. Sail is dated 1985. It's a light 155. Got my boat number in the sails so it was bought new for the boat. Looking forward to seeing what it'll do with a nice big genoa.

Re: Headed to Catalina!

The weather has been great, so you should have a pretty easy sail/motor. Just watch out for the commercial traffic out in the channel.

Re: Headed to Catalina!

That's a long sail and a long day. You should think about staying the night. There are some grreat spots to anchor over there if you don't want to be in Avalon or Two Harbors.

I don't think he was planning on sailing all the way around the island, just there and back. If he left at 5am, like he said at the top of the thread, even with an hour or two for lunch he could easily be back by early evening.
