Why are we here?

Why does everyone keep looking and posting here every day or week or whenever?
No one agrees on which anchor is best;
no one agrees on which boat is seaworthy;
no one agrees on where one should retire;
no one agrees on the way to dock a sailboat;
no one agrees on how to air condition a sailboat;
no one agrees on how teak should be maintained;
no one agrees on defending ones self aboard;
no one agrees on much of anything as I see it.
Or is that what keeps everyone coming back?

Re: Why are we here?

That's the beauty of it! If you have a question, you can get multiple answers that may help. If you are having problems docking, you can be given 15 different approaches to try for yourself. Although there may be bickering going on, there are nuggets of wisdom hidden in there. I think it would be boring if everyone agreed!

Re: Why are we here?

I disagree, don't we all enjoy it when someone thinks they're explaining boat design to Bob Perry etc.?

Re: Why are we here?

I'm here mainly to lurk and to learn from others' knowledge and experience, and on occasion, to ask questions and to consider carefully any answers given, and, on rare occasion, perhaps to teach the tiny bit I may think I happen to know.

Re: Why are we here?

Some are here to socialize
Some are here to be divisive
Some are here to help
Some are here to troll
Some are here to learn
Some are here to be petulant
Some are here to discover the beauty of sailing
Some are here to mock them
Some are here to understand
Some are here because they miss grade school

And the rest of us are here because we love to sail

Replace, "no one agrees" with "everyone doesn't agree". Much closer to accurate. Don't you agree?

Re: Why are we here?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm banned from CF, so my choices are more limited.

I'm here for the same reason many go to vegas or play the lottery- one of these days, I just might win.

It's also cheaper than therapy, and less public than AA.

Re: Why are we here?

If you agree, why post?

Sometimes it's also enough just to read other views and have them affirm what you already believe.

Re: Why are we here?

What SailNet needs to do is create a ******** meter. So instead of clicking on "like," each person would be allowed a vote that would give each posting a rating from 1-10, which would correspond to: "great answer, I agree" to "piled hip deep". This way, we'd have some group consensus to help filter these answers. Life is all about having a good filter...

And to answer your question specifically, I am here because I am an independent contractor and my mind wanders too much to stay on task so it is better to be here than wasting the same time on Facebook.
