Another thing to think about is that most yacht clubs will only hire US Sailing instructors for their counselors / instructor staff and sailing directors. The reason for this is simple -- almost every US yacht club holds their insurance through Gowrie / Chubb, which is affiliated with US Sailing and requires it.

Re: ASA or US Sailing...who's best...

Many good points - thanks. I have the experience and sea time to both challenge the ASA/USA courses up through Coastal KBI and qualify for CG time for a Captains rating so I'm set there.....just have to pass the courses.

Comparing ASA vs US Sailing, I see ASA advertises a lot more in magazines than does US Sailing although their programs read very similar on their websites.

From a service providers perspective (ie - operating a new sailing school), I'd like to affiliate with the organization that will catch the eye of the majority of prospective students and initially it looks like that would be ASA.

More thoughts? and thanks!

A school owner commented to me that ASA caters more to cruising sailors and US Sailing more to racing sailors......

Thoughts?
