Faking out GPS signal

A bit scary. Does not seem too difficult to pull off.

Re: Faking out GPS signal

Sounds possible, they increased the transmitted signal level to get the receivers gain to decrease which drops the real signal thereby on hearing the fake signal. Called spoofing.
Maybe a way to guard against this would be to design the receiver to only accept a signal between certain levels. Maybe another way to protect the receiver is to use antennas that only focus on know paths to the birds. Receiver knows where it is, knows where the birds are, calculates the look angle to the birds and adjusts the antenna weights for that angle.
No such thing as a free cat, and that goes for boats as well.
