Annapolis Boat Show Question

I'm working on fitting out my boat for a trip to the Bahamas. I'm plan to go to the Annapolis show to do some shopping for the trip. I have to get a life raft, Fortress F45 and a PLB. Can I actually buy and pick up items like this at the show?

Re: Annapolis Boat Show Question

Maybe. It's always a bit of a crap shoot what you'll find at the show.

You might get a deal on the last day on something like an anchor - assuming the vendor has the size/type you're looking for.

A liferaft on display in a booth would have to be re-packed. You might be better off contacting the manufacturer and asking if you can buy it and pick it up at the show to save shipping.

For the PLB check out Defender and The GPS Store booths.

Keep in mind most vendors will offer show discounts for some days after the show.

Probably
Inquire with the manufacturers or dealers to verify. They may make a special effort to bring what you need if it isn't already in their plan.

Re: Annapolis Boat Show Question

There are definitely good show specials. I would shop around hard prior to the show so you can better gauge whether or not you're getting a good price (if shipping is not included or moot factor that in).

Re: Annapolis Boat Show Question

They have special deals on liferaftsale, but you are ordering one to be shipped in a few weeks. I got mine at last years boat show, and had it delivered in time for an early November departure for the Caribbean. Price was as good as I could find anywhere, plus you got see a range of rafts to chose what works best for you.

Re: Annapolis Boat Show Question

If you find a representative who has a floor model of a big bulky item you're looking for on the first day of the show, cut a deal with him/her to buy that demo item. He'll put a "sold" sticker on it, and you can pick it up at the end of the show. He won't want to haul it back, and you can get a really good price. (We got our dinghy, outboard, and some other similar items really cheap using that strategy. The trick is to get your dibs on the item on day 1.)

Re: Annapolis Boat Show Question

Oh, and what if you don't want to spend all day Monday (the last day) at the show? If all you want to do is pick up your floor model demo item, you can get in for free. Wait until around 3 or 4 PM and show the gate staffer your receipt and tell him/her that you need to pick up a purchase. Then after you've gotten your item, stick around for tear-down, it's quite a show.
