How many gallons of anti fouling paint do I need to paint the bottom of my 27 footer?

Re: How much Paint

Any opinions about 'ablative bottom paint by hempel?'
Sailors Exchange has 5 gallons of blue for $300.00 I was going to get tomorrow and have brought down.

Re: How much Paint

Is it like interior house paint--500 square feet per gallon for the first coat, less for the second??

Re: How much Paint

depends on the boat. Fin keel, full keel, or CB?

Re: How much Paint

I got 2 coats out of 1 gallon Blue interlux on a 26 ft. 1st coat I put on very thick. 2nd coat I just rolled it out until it covered. Went over red without a problem. Also had enough to do a touch up at the beginning of this season. Be careful of air temp and humidity because they both will effect your paint job and coverage.

Re: How much Paint

I did my 25' fin keel earlier this season; 1.25g for 2 good coats.

The paint was WM PVA Gold.

I also get about 1 & 1/2 coats from 1 gallon with my Tartan 27'.

Re: How much Paint

Last time I did the bottom on my Cal 2-27 one gallon of Trinidad, and about half a quart of brushing thinner, got me two coats (with just enough for another coat on the leading edges). That's more thinner than they recommend, but it has lasted four years.

Never forget them. Do something to prevent it from happening again.
