Old Sailing Ads

Sail magazine posted this feature. Its a hoot. I actually remember the Dufour ad. Apparently, it made quite an impression on my 13 year old brain.

Thanks for posting that. I remember a lot of those adds.
It was a very different time.

Chuckle.

It was the '70s. "Leisure suits". Need I say more?

Okay, I will. I liked the contrast between C&N Brit ("we like our beer warm, and our women cold") and Dufour French ("responsive and well-constructed")...

Great fun, and interesting commentary on gender relations i.e. 'the gentler sex'. You've come a long way baby, to borrow another old advertisement...

Re: Old Sailing Ads

Boat shows were much more like a car show back then spokesmodels and all, the first HC I ever saw was INDOORS in a convention center. There was a new Cal 40 (indoors) that had an etched glass door labeled "engine room" on the miniature phone booth surrounding the motor. That seemed the height of elegance at the time.

Those are awesome! I love the Nautical Pursuit game.

"Let's invite the old, drunk, captain dude over and make fun of him!"

Re: Old Sailing Ads

Thanks! These ads reminded me of my 1970's Playboy issues I have stashed in the basement. I need to check on them to make sure they are still there. Remember all the hair people sported back then? Wowsers... how the times have changed...

Re: Old Sailing Ads

Did any of you old Chicago farts see "Lynn the HOLOGRAM" produced by a "lazer beam" and "only 9 tall"?

That must have cost "one million dollars".
mstern and krisscross like this.

Re: Old Sailing Ads

I remember thinking that Lynn was in danger of getting some nasty rope burns when looking at those Harken ads.
