Lightbulb HIN Number for O'Day Javelin

I am trying to determine the date of an O'Day javelin. It does not have a HIN number. Is there another way to day it?

Re: HIN Number for O'Day Javelin

Are you sure it doesn't have a HID? if not, it was built before 1972.

Re: HIN Number for O'Day Javelin

Is there a chance that this boat was made right at the time when they were starting to be required? Maybe it slipped under the radar and was actually a mid 70s boat? Just thinking of possibilities.

Re: HIN Number for O'Day Javelin

I'm pretty sure HIN's were required in 72, maybe 73 at the latest. Look real hard, upper starboard transom. Age made have taken a toll on the numbers and they just might be real hard to see.

Re: HIN Number for O'Day Javelin

There is a spot that looks like it has been sanded down on upper starboard. It is smooth while the rest of the transom is textured. There is a plaque on the inside front of the boat with the class number and serial number but no HIN number.

Re: HIN Number for O'Day Javelin

My O'Day had it in the middle of the transom, on the outside. I believe all O'Day boats had them in the same place.

My current boat, a '72 Catalina, has no HIN. Catalina told me they started adding them in 1974.

I believe my DS has the HIN right above the rudder gudgeons. My memory might be failing me. It's a 76.
