Incredible sailing weekend in NC!

We had an unusually breezy and cool summer weekend just in time for the Dog Days Regatta (sailing here in August sometimes means bobbing around and sweating). The event is held as a fundraiser for Little Washington Sailing School, a nonprofit that teaches youth sailing.

One of our charter boats wasn't booked, so I took a couple of buddies and sailed Tribute, a Catalina 36. I've done a lot of daysailing, cruising, and some offshore passages but this was my first race, and we had a blast. Anyway, just wanted to share some pictures!

Who is staring at the sea is already sailing a little.

The SO is being asked to move to NC for in a job transfer, New Bern in particular. We've just started looking into actually making the move. Thanks for the pics!

Re: Incredible sailing weekend in NC!

Nice pictures! And that is a beautiful boat! That looks like Broad Creek in the last picture.
Julie, New Bern is a very nice, historical town (over 300 years old). They have done a great job of zoning- The historical district is along the water front, and the busy big-box store/commercial area is kept separate. Downtown is pedestrian-friendly, with plenty of little shops and restaurants (you HAVE to check out the Baker's Kitchen!), and beautiful churches. There are two marinas, one of which is a block from downtown.

There are also a couple of marinas within a couple of miles of New Bern, and the sailing is fantastic. Also, New Bern is only 38 nautical miles from Morehead City and Beaufort (about half of it under motor) Plenty to do there, and ocean sailing too!

Sorry to sound like an advertisement, but my wife and I have been considering the move to New Bern also. I would definitely advise a visit. Fall is probably the best time.
