Cushion replacement

I took out a club boat this weekend and a guest managed to lose a cushion overboard. It was the small cushion in the v-birth. It is shaped like a trapezoid and rests at the end and between the two main cushions. The short side is 12" and the opposite side is 25". The sides are each 25". I am responsible for replacing it, but the club owner said it will cost about $1,000 which sounds really expensive. He has the material that covers the cushion so I asked if I could find someone to do it cheaper. Any suggestions for who to use in the Boston, North Shore area?

I hope there's a good story behind losing a v-birth cushion:cool:

Anyway, $1,000 is pretty ridiculous

the cushions for the v berth are suppose to stay inside the boat. but you know that now. should be able to get a upholster shop to make one for under $300. don't tell them it is for a boat or it will cost you another 100

Well my guest had a bit of wine and wanted us to sleep on deck. Anyway, at least it was the small one and not one of the two big ones. Found a place that can do it for about $300.

Can you share a pointer? I too am looking for some fresh cushions in the Boston area ...

Any upholstery shop can take care of you. Some years ago, I had an auto upholster make some for me.

think about it. buy the foam and fabric, cut the custom foam shape, cut all the fabric to size, sew the seems. add the zipper. stuff the foam in the cushion. what do you think it will take 47 minutes? it is about a 6 hour job so they are making $50 an hour and they have all the tools. would you work for $50 an hour on a custom project?

Re: Cushion replacement

Having made the entire interior for a boat previously, there is no way that it takes anything close to 6 hours to do that. About five minutes to cut the foam, fifteen minutes to measure/cut the fabric and maybe half an hour to sew it. It's not a difficult shape.

you should open a shop and I will give all my business if you are that fast and cheap. if you can make a cushion that fast then it should only take you about 6 hours to do a whole boat. why would a shop employee move that fast?
