Sorry - misunderstood your question.
On our "power boat with sails" as it is when we are "mini passage making" we cruise about 6 knots in flat calm, through the water. Because, when we are on our "mini passage making" of two to three days to get to where we want to be, we have to "cruise" down west (or up east) on the Coast of Maine, our cruising speed over the ground ranges from almost 10 to less than 3. And there are places with the currents that those ranges get exceeded.
If we have to do a 12 hour day we hit both tides, so about 6 knots works.
On the very very very rare occasion that the wind is from a favourable direction - 7.5 is a good over the ground, but the stars have to be aligned, the cat must be sleeping and the politicians must be actually thinking about the citizens best interests.
