He's off!!...... Again!!

Glen Wakefield, a Victoria sailor who attempted a solo nonstop circumnav the 'wrong way' a few years back and was forced to abandon the voyage beyond Cape of Good Hope and nearly to the Horn when a storm and lost meds forced his rescue, is off once again.

On a restored Classic Plastic, and again with minimal fanfare he departed Victoria waters yesterday on the same mission as last time.

Nice looking boat, looks to be in fine fettle judging by the pics.

I'm sure that the likes of BP and JH, not to mention BS could pick fault with his choice but the man is correct ... these boats make you smile. (where you is something of an old fart of course).

Damn, if I was gonna sail upwind around the world south of the Great Capes, I'd at least want a dodger that spanned the full width of the freakin' coachroof! He had the same sort companionway 'spray hood' on his previous boat, guess he must really like the feel of [freezing) salt spray on his face :-) One tough dude, for sure, I wish him well...

Hmmm, and to think that many folks today believe you can't motor down the ICW in November without a full cockpit enclosure... :-)

Dodger

I'm with you on that JE. Seems a curious choice really but seemingly he only wants the dodger to protect the companionway rather than to deflect spray.

Now now, you leave us poor wimps with our full cockpit enclosures alone. November in your neck of the woods, I'd want a freaking pilot house.

And here I thought those enclosures were actually oxygen tents.............

Re: He's off!!...... Again!!

I used to see one of those Chris Crafts docked in Bellingham - they are even better looking in person than in pictures. S&S at their zenith.

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.

Re: He's off!!...... Again!!

What's the big deal with the minimalist dodger? When it gets cold and notty, he is just going to set the wind vane and go below for a nap... for a few weeks.
