Cat Ketch

On the way back to RI today I noticed a nice looking Cat Ketch obviously with free standing carbon masts. As I got closer I noticed it was not a Freedom as I suspected. She was a real beauty, any ideas what other builder/designer it could be. She was headed north up the West Passage of Narragansett Bay when I saw her.

Re: Cat Ketch

I love cats.. catketches especially. I just do not care for the nonsuch and freedoms. I do not think that the Herreshoff's came with CF masts though

I'm pretty certain it was not a Herreshoff.

Thanks,

Cat Ketch

Size? There are "Offshore cat ketches" at ~30 ft, looks similar to Hereshoff / Freedom line, Tanton Cat Ketches, - larger boats ~ 40 ft, smaller boats from Laser designer
http://brucekirbymarine.org/sharpie.html
And from
Bandbyachtsdesign.com,
There is new Presto 30
http://solarwindboats.com/
Able yachts made custom cat ketches.
And i probably miss a few.
If you tell me a size and describe how it looked i may identify it.

It looked to be 40-42 foot. Had wishbone rigs, I have to say it looked exactly like the Freedom 39 except it had more wood.
I wish I had taken longer to look, but I was ready to get back to the mooring, and put a foot on land.

Re: Cat Ketch

Could be on of the Chuck Paine designs. I found the reference to his 32-footer, but I know he designed bigger Cat Ketches too.

Re: Cat Ketch

At 31-33 feet it could be an Able Whistler. Beautiful lines and workmanship.
