I got the East River Blues...

So I was trying to burn up my last full week of vacation this year with the never-before-achieved (by me) circumnavigation of Long Island. However, I neglected to compare calenders with the Secretary General of the United Nations! I completely forgot about the East River closures related to the UN General Assembly. I was hoping to go through during daylight hours tomorrow (9/24), but I won't be able to get there before the closure (I'm in Huntington right now).

So after calling VTSNY and downloading the summary of the closures, I think my best shot is Wednesday morning. I'll sail from Huntington to City Island tomorrow and cool my heels there until about 0430 on Wednesday. I'm trying to time it so I arrive at the 59th Street Bridge no later than 0630 because they shut the West Channel down at 0700. I don't want to mess with the bridge on the other side of Roosevelt Island.

Do any fellow sailnetters see any problems with that plan? Tidal Currents for Wednesday AM at Hell Gate are:
0248 - Slack, Ebb begins
0525 - Max Ebb (4 kts)
0701 - $50K fine /5 years for violating the restricted zone!

Is anyone else trying to get down the East River on Wednesday? Maybe if we go together, they'll let us split the fine!
