Not sure what you, Dave, are inferring from Merlnas post? I didn't get that vibe at all, but someone who was sharing the experience they had.

From everything I have heard I need to join this great group of sailors! Cheers
So why didn't you attend then Shawn. For the life of me I cant understand why anyone is this area didn't attend.

I think I stated that pretty clearly in my post.

Cheers,

Re: SSCA Annapolis Gam

Sounds like the boat parkers really want to be out cruising...

what, specifically makes these subjects 'cruise'?

I'm not ridiculing - which is your choice of word. I'm asking.
That's great you went Chuck. I went a few years ago. Its a really great party with a lot of nice people. My impression was that it was a great get together of cruisers. Nothing negative really just a great get together of people who cruise.

I believe SCCA promotes the cruising lifestyle. As I mentioned we are members. The courses / forums were great informational with good people heading them. I attended the same ones or similar when I went/ They are almost all based on cruising...thus the titles of the courses almost all have the word cruising in them

http://www.ssca.org/downloads/events..._Gam_flyer.pdf

If I wanted to learn about sail trim however I would race, or go to Gary Jobsons lectures,,,no slight intended on Dave Flynn from Quantum Sails who I know and did the sails for Haleakula and obviously has knowledge

I am sure Dave's lecture was top notch as he is an expert in that and has made a career of that. It would have been the only one I would have wanted to not miss.

Maybe I can point to this comparison as I have attended the Gam, the pre-training/ courses for the Caribbean 1500, the pre-training and courses for the ARC, and others. They don't compare. Course they aren't meant to.

The only thing I took a little question at was Melras comment that she couldn't understand why anyone who lived or sailed in the area didn't come, but I have asked her to explain that further. I know it wasnt any type of slight as she doesn't post that way on here, but maybe I misread into what she said. Hopefully she will explain.

We support the SSCA. The SCCA burgee flies on our boat, right under our clib burgee, the C&C burgee and the Mystic Seaport burgee which we also support. I enjoy reading about the places in the journals about places I will probably never visit. Enjoy reading others stories. So please don't imply any disparagement of that organization. I think we are lucky to have Dave as the President also. He is passionate, knowledgeable and engaged about all things sailing.

Maybe my choice of word ridiculing was not PC enough here.

I am sure Dave will sign you up gladly so you can fly the burgee too. Don't forget to mark next years Gam on your calendar to attend
