I'm curious, why are you doing this restore? Seems like a nightmare, with no economic upside.

Re: I need advice ..off shore or Intracoastal NJ to Florida

I love the journey more than the arrival .. I am a mechanical guy that enjoys projects ..
And I suffer from the sickness of no one else's work is good enough and I need to do it myself "my way "
The so called finished boats I have purchased in the past all needed so much work I just as well gutted them and started over ...
Now, there are great sailboats out that would meet my standards .. but I also can not afford them ..the old champagne desire on a beer budget thing !! but over time I will get it there and love doing it all the way there .. the difference here is the 3K miles that makes all the difference ..

I hope most sincerely those twin Yanmars are safe and sound and ready to purr.. Gotta be 20-30 K right there!

Jaan, I'm confused. The eBay listing says someone won the auction with an $18,000 bid. Did they not pay you?

Re: I need advice ..off shore or Intracoastal NJ to Florida

Yes that is correct .. about a month ago I posted my boat on Ebay and this guy was the high bidder .. but his financier backed out at the last minute ..
I had a few other guys want it ..but no one as of yet stepped up .
So this is why now I am behind the power curve and getting it marginally sea worthy ..even to launch and get a different marina before the weather complicates things ..

Ahhh. That sucks. So, how did the conversation go with the yard? Did you find some place to take her?

If you were willing to take 18k without finishing the restore, I think Denise has the best idea. Sell the motors, ASAP, scrap the rest and buy something near home to restore.

It's all but impossible to finance a project boat of this condition.

Scrapping the boat not as turn key as some might think. Every fluid in that boat is a haz mat. As well all the paint varnish etc etc. That said, you could give it a shot. offer someone a $1000 to sawz all it down to the keel.

The problem with donating it is moving it. it wouldn't make economic sense. The permits to move a boat of this size could take weeks, if not months to obtain.

I don't think there is a yard in the US that doesn't have abandon boats on it. They must be dealing with it somehow. The OP may be able to get in on their disposal program, as opposed to just abandoning it.
