Aussie question

Asking a question for someone else, when we went from Brisbane to Darwin in May, we were told that local cruisers go north when we did and wait for the winds to change to come south. When does this happen and how tough would it be to go from Darwin in Brisbane then? Can't imagine it would be all that easy since you are still dealing with the Trades across the top and part way down the coast.

Finished the circumnavigation in early February in Grenada. Have to work on a book project for the next several months so the boat will be waiting for next year.
