And up the Sacramento River, and down the Sacramento River and up the San Joaquin River, and down the San Joaquin River, and San Pablo Bay, and Suisun Bay, never mind the thousands of miles of Sloughs and creeks.

Well sorta but mostly motor, not sail up and done the rivers, sloughs, above Decker Island on the Sacramento river and Fishermans Cut on the San Joaquin. I pulled a 27 sailboat off the mud by Korth's Pirates Lair a couple of weeks ago. He said he was motoring up to Stockton when he got stuck. In the bays sail is used mostly but the rivers can get hairy with commercial ocean going coastwise tankers and frieghters going back and forth. There are lots of wide areas that look great for sailing but they may be only three foot deep or less this time of the year...chuckle....I almost hit a duck blind once on Grizzley Bay

Whats the city best known for their sailing?
Best known by who? I would bet that Joe Q Public says San Francisco and probably has no idea where Annapolis is. The city best known by sailors for their sailing is probably the ones that they are familiar with. Was this a trick question? If not I say Miami, well maybe San Francisco. Anyway the best places to sail are the great places that eveybody doesn't know about.

the question should be restated: what city do forum members think is the most popular sailing area in North America.

Annapolis?? Isnt there a really grand old square rigger home ported there?
