Re: 130 lb centerboard hanging up

Centerboards will not go down if there is lateral pressure on them, like when sailing to windward. Many, like mine, will jam if brought all the way up, so we have put a mark on the cable to prevent that. You will probably have to go under there (or haul the boat) and using a screw driver pry it back out. Then, don't forget to mark the cable/lone you use to control it.
Good luck.

You could have stirred up some sand or other flotsam into the C/B trunk.
Try tapping the side of the C/B trunk.
Otherwise you are going for a swim or a haul out.

Re: 130 lb centerboard hanging up

I've actually seen downhaul lines rigged for CB's for such purposes. I agree with Caleb, you probably have some sand stuck in there and it's keeping the CB stuck. If you can get to the top of the CB trunk, one idea would be to try to flush the area with fresh water from the top. That might dislodge the sand or other debris. On something like a lightning, it should be easy to haul her out and clean from the bottom if need be. Do you have a trailer?

It's a Lightning. This is not a stout board I presume. You may have bent it.
Is it metal?

Thanks, I have always been able to kick it down, I 'm thinking it must have been debris wedging up.

Ya , it's actually a robust metal centerboard. If something were to bend it, it would make an awful noise up-top..cause they act like a needle on an old record ,when you scrape against something the sound is amplified by the hull.

You may be able to get the debris out of the centerboard box by rocking the boat vigorously for a few minutes.
