I don't think it's a tort case, the skipper of the sailboat was charged over his "seamanship"

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.

Why do they paint those tankers in this stealth color?? Hard to see even on a clear day.

After a close encounter with a fast container ship when delivering a 50' yacht this Summer, I am amazed with just how fast this stuff can happen. I was crossing a channel junction at 12 knots in very patchy fog, visibility about 800 yards at the time. I was having issues with the radar and reset it, which takes about two minutes to reboot. At the time I reset it I did a scan all around, looked down to reset and re calibrate it, looked back up in time to see a huge container ship cut across my bow at a range of about 50 yards. I hit the AP release and went hard to starboard, passing about 100' aft of his stern. He continued in his high speed turn and disappeared into the fog in less than a minute. Never a radio contact or blast on the horn. Never did appear on the radar until afterwards. This stuff can happen real fast and if the chute obscured the ship, I could see it.
